Mahébourg waterfront promenade
A seafront promenade in the old French capital of the south-east, from the market to the fishing boats, with the lagoon and Lion Mountain across the bay.
Mahébourg's waterfront is a short, landscaped promenade along the bay: benches under the trees, fishermen mending nets, pirogues in the lagoon and Lion Mountain on the other side. At the south end are the market (busiest on Mondays) and the bus station; at the north end the old bridge over the Rivière La Chaux.
It's short (about 1 km there and back), but it's the nicest place to feel the town: combine it with the market, the naval museum and a dholl puri.
- Lagoon views and fishing boats
- Monday market next door
