North of Blue Bay, the large emerald lagoon of Mahébourg shelters snorkel spots that few visitors see. The best known is a garden of sea anemones where Mauritian clownfish (the island's own species) live in their hundreds.

It's reached by boat from Mahébourg or Pointe d'Esny, often as a stop on south-east island trips: ask the operators for the 'anemone garden'.
