Port Louis is best seen on foot. Start at the Caudan Waterfront, cross to the palm-lined Place d'Armes, dive into the Central Market (spices, fruit, street food), then visit the Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO), where indentured labourers arrived from 1834. Walk through Chinatown to the white Jummah Mosque, then climb to Fort Adelaide (the Citadel) for the view over the city and the harbour, and come back down to Place d'Armes.

About 3 km and 2–3 hours with visits. Go on a weekday morning, when the market is busiest.

  • The Central Market
  • Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO)
  • View from Fort Adelaide
