Le Souffleur & Pont Naturel
A blowhole and a natural rock bridge on the wild south-east coast, where the ocean crashes into the basalt cliffs.
At Le Souffleur, waves are forced through a hole in the basalt shelf and shoot up in a spray (less than in the past, when the rock hadn't eroded, but still dramatic in a big swell). Nearby, the Pont Naturel is an arch of rock with the ocean surging underneath. Access is by a rough track through sugarcane.
Wild, windy and deserted. Savinia beach, just west, is a lovely, empty stretch of sand to finish (not for swimming in big waves). Combine with Gris Gris or La Vanille.
