Martello Tower museum
A restored British fortification from 1832 on La Preneuse beach, a few minutes' walk from the villa, with a small, lively museum.
The British built five Martello towers along the west coast in the 1830s, fearing a French attempt to retake the island (and a slave revolt around the abolition of slavery). The La Preneuse tower is the best preserved: thick basalt walls, a cannon on the roof and a small museum about the island's colonial and military history.
A short, interesting visit before a sunset on the beach.
