Grand Gaube is a fishing village at the north-eastern corner of the island, where the coast turns towards the wilder east. Its lagoon is sheltered and clear, with small public beaches, pirogues and a couple of hotels.

It's off the usual circuit and rarely crowded: a quiet swim on a day in the north.
