Bassin Blanc crater lake
A hidden flooded crater in the green south, a few steps from the road: still water, forest walls and no one around.
Bassin Blanc is one of the island's three crater lakes, and by far the least visited. A short walk from the roadside brings you to a viewpoint over the round, forest-lined crater and its still water, which reflects the clouds.
There's nothing else here (no facilities, no ticket), which is its charm. It's 15 minutes from Grand Bassin and a quiet stop on a plateau or south-coast day. Swimming is forbidden.
