Since the 1830s, sea water has been pumped into these shallow basalt-lined basins and evaporated by the sun of the dry west coast. Workers, often women, rake and carry the white salt in baskets. The pans are especially photogenic in the late afternoon light, with the Tourelle du Tamarin behind.

A 15-minute stop 5 minutes from the villa; the shop sells the salt.

  • Hand-harvested sea salt
  • Great late-afternoon photos
