In a clearing near Chamarel, weathered volcanic basalt has turned into small dunes of sand in up to seven colours, from red and brown to violet and blue-green. The colours never mix, even after rain. The same park has a viewpoint over the Chamarel waterfall (about 100 m high), the tallest on the island, falling into a green gorge, plus Aldabra giant tortoises and a cafΓ©.

The road up to Chamarel, with views over Le Morne and Case Noyale, is part of the experience.
