Plaine Champagne scenic drive
The B103 across the central plateau, from Chamarel to Grand Bassin: viewpoints, waterfalls and forest, the island's most beautiful drive.
The road from Chamarel up to Plaine Champagne and across to Grand Bassin crosses the heart of the Black River Gorges National Park. Along the way: the Chamarel viewpoint, the Black River Gorges viewpoint over the deep green valley, Alexandra Falls, macaques by the road, and finally the sacred lake of Grand Bassin.
Do it as a slow drive with stops (2β3 hours), or as the backbone of a plateau day with a hike or lunch in Chamarel.
